Chinese factory holidays 2026 in Q4: what to order, pay and ship before each date

The remaining Chinese factory holidays 2026 are National Day on 1–7 October, the Canton Fair from 15 October to 4 November, Singles Day on 11 November, White Friday on 27 November and Chinese New Year around 6 February 2027. With sea lead times of 45–60 days to the Gulf, White Friday stock must sail from China before mid-October or fly before mid-November.

Which Chinese factory holidays 2026 are still ahead this year?

China's official calendar is set by an annual notice from the General Office of the State Council. The 2026 notice states that the National Day holiday runs from Thursday 1 October to Wednesday 7 October, with make-up workdays on Sunday 20 September and Saturday 10 October. That is the paper version. The factory floor runs differently, so here are the six dates as an importer sees them.

  • 1–7 October 2026: National Day holiday (Golden Week). Factories, ports, forwarders' offices and banks stop. Full output returns gradually after 10 October, because part of the workforce returns late.
  • 15–19 October, 23–27 October, 31 October–4 November: the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou in three phases, according to the organiser's website. Sales teams at exhibiting factories are at the fair, not on the production line.
  • 11 November: Singles Day, China's largest domestic shopping day. Many factories reserve capacity for domestic platform orders in the weeks before it, and couriers are at their peak.
  • 27 November 2026: White Friday in the Gulf, according to the Amazon Ads guide. Campaigns on Amazon and noon start a few days earlier, and platform inventory deadlines fall weeks earlier.
  • December: the production peak before Chinese New Year. Prices, delivery times and container space are under pressure.
  • Around 6 February 2027: Chinese New Year. Expect roughly two weeks off before and three after. The official 2027 holiday notice is usually published in November, so check the exact dates on gov.cn when it appears.

What must already have happened before each date?

The rule is simple: count back from the arrival date you need, not forward from today. Current sea lead times from South China ports to Jeddah, Dammam and Jebel Ali run between 45 and 60 days door to door, according to forwarders' quotes in September 2026, and they can stretch with post-holiday congestion. Add a week for customs clearance and a week for receiving at your warehouse, and you know when each step must finish.

Before Golden Week (1 October)

You have six days. Whatever does not happen before 30 September will not happen before 12 October at the earliest. Chinese banks stop too, so a transfer landing on 2 October is not credited until after the holiday. The steps, in order:

  1. Confirm the order in writing: specifications, quantity, price, ready date and payment terms, in a contract or proforma invoice signed by both sides.
  2. Pay the deposit (commonly 30% to 50% of the order value, and negotiable) and send the transfer receipt to the factory before 29 September so it is credited before the shutdown.
  3. Ask the factory for a written post-holiday schedule: when raw materials arrive and when the first production batch is ready for inspection.
  4. If your goods are ready now, book the pre-shipment inspection this week and the first sailing after the holiday; slots after 8 October fill quickly.
  5. Keep a copy of every message. Factories sometimes change staff after the holiday, and paper is your memory.

During the Canton Fair (15 October – 4 November)

If your factory exhibits at the fair, your sales contact answers more slowly for three weeks. Production does not stop, but decisions slow down. Ask for a backup contact for daily follow-up before the sales team leaves for Guangzhou. If you want a new supplier for 2027, the fair is the place, but an order agreed in October will not reach the Gulf before January at best.

Before Singles Day (11 November)

In the two weeks before it, factories give priority to domestic platform orders because they are larger, closer and faster to pay. If production is running in this window, ask for photos and video from the line every two days, and fix the final inspection to a firm date rather than "when the goods are ready".

Before White Friday (27 November)

The arithmetic leaves no room. Goods leaving Shenzhen by sea on 15 October arrive at Jebel Ali between 29 November and 14 December at a 45–60 day lead time, which is after White Friday. So White Friday sea cargo must have sailed before Golden Week or in the first week after it; whatever has not shipped by sea by mid-October goes by air until mid-November or waits for the Ramadan season. If you sell through Amazon or noon, check the inventory receiving deadlines in your seller dashboard, because they fall weeks before the campaign and differ by platform.

December and Chinese New Year (around 6 February 2027)

In December everyone wants to ship before the big shutdown. Freight rates usually rise from mid-December to mid-January, and factories stop taking new orders for pre-holiday delivery in early January. Any order you need before Ramadan 2027, expected in February, must be confirmed and its deposit paid before the end of November.

Sea or air? What each option costs you in time and money

The choice depends on weight, margin and deadline. This comparison is drawn from forwarders' quotes in September 2026; the figures move weekly, so get an updated quote before deciding.

  • Full container FCL by sea: 45–60 days door to door to the Gulf. Lowest cost per tonne; needs a pre-shipment inspection and a booking at least two weeks before sailing in peak season.
  • Groupage LCL by sea: the same lead time plus 5–10 extra days for consolidation and deconsolidation at the port. Suited to under 15 cubic metres, at a higher cost per cubic metre than a full container.
  • Air freight: 5–10 days door to door depending on the airport and clearance. Charged per kilogram or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, at several times the sea cost, so it suits only light, high-margin goods.
  • Express courier: 3–7 days for samples and small quantities. Unsuitable for heavy goods, and customs duties are collected on delivery.

To work out the difference for your goods, add freight to duties, clearance and inland transport as set out in the real cost of importing from China to your warehouse door. Remember that under FOB the factory's responsibility ends once the goods are loaded on the vessel; the rest sits with your forwarder, as explained in Incoterms for importing from China.

A week-by-week checklist from today to the end of November

Print this and attach it to every open order. Each week has one task, and what you miss is hard to make up later.

  • This week (to 30 September): confirm open orders, transfer deposits, book inspections, book freight for the first sailing after the holiday, and request a post-holiday schedule from every factory.
  • 1–7 October: do not wait for replies. Review documents, prepare packing lists, and check that the conformity certificates your country requires are still valid.
  • 8–14 October: contact the factory on the first day back. Confirm workers are back and raw materials have arrived. Inspect the first post-holiday batch before the factory completes the quantity.
  • 15 October – 4 November: follow production through the backup contact. If you are at the fair, set aside a day to visit your existing factory, not only to find a new one.
  • 5–11 November: pre-shipment inspection for White Friday air cargo. Give the forwarder final weights and dimensions.
  • 12–20 November: last chance for White Friday air freight. Confirm early sea shipments have reached your warehouse or the platform's.
  • 21–30 November: confirm December orders and pay their deposits. Whatever is not confirmed now lands in the January crush.

Common mistakes in these weeks

We see these every year in the same weeks, and most cost a month of delay or a payment that cannot be recovered.

  • Paying before the holiday without an inspection: the factory asks for the balance before 1 October "to speed up shipping after the holiday". If you pay without an inspection report, you lose your only leverage for three weeks. Inspect first, then pay, as in how to inspect a factory in China before you pay.
  • Accepting a delivery date that falls inside the holiday: "ready on 5 October" means 12 October or later in practice. Ask for a date outside the holiday and fix it in the contract with a clear delay clause.
  • Forgetting that quality dips after the holiday: for two weeks after the return the factory runs with new or late-returning workers and the defect rate rises. Add an inspection of the first batch, and read product quality when importing from China.
  • Booking freight after the goods are ready: in October and November vessels are booked two weeks ahead. Book when the factory confirms the ready date, not when the goods reach the port.
  • Relying on chat messages alone: after the holiday your contact may have changed. Fix every agreement in a signed document or a formal email.

What to do this week

Three steps are enough to get through Golden Week without losing a month:

  1. List every open order with: the ready date confirmed in writing, the deposit status, and whether the inspection is booked. Whatever lacks one of the three, complete before 30 September.
  2. Ask your forwarder for an updated quote for the first sailing after 8 October, with a written door-to-door lead time, and book space even if the goods are not yet complete.
  3. Send each factory one message with three questions: when the workforce is fully back, when raw materials arrive, and who is in charge during the Canton Fair.

If you lack the time to chase the factory, book freight and follow inspections through these weeks, HiGreenPanda's full import process management service takes on daily factory follow-up, inspection, booking and clearance to your warehouse door, with a weekly report to you.

Questions this article answers

When do Chinese factories close in October 2026?

According to the State Council's 2026 holiday notice, the National Day holiday runs from 1 to 7 October, with make-up workdays on 20 September and 10 October. In practice most factories return to full capacity gradually after 10 October, so allow an extra week in your schedule.

What are the dates of the 140th Canton Fair in autumn 2026?

Three phases, according to the organiser: 15–19 October, 23–27 October and 31 October to 4 November 2026 in Guangzhou. Each phase covers different product categories, so check which phase covers your sector on the fair's website before booking travel.

When must White Friday stock ship from China?

White Friday falls on 27 November 2026. At a sea lead time of 45–60 days to the Gulf, goods must sail before mid-October. Anything later goes by air until mid-November at a much higher cost, or is pushed to a later season.

Should I pay the factory balance before the October holiday?

Do not pay the balance before a pre-shipment inspection report. A deposit to secure the order is acceptable, but the balance is paid after the inspection and just before sailing, because it is your only leverage during weeks when the factory does not respond.

When does the Chinese New Year holiday 2027 start?

Chinese New Year falls around 6 February 2027. Factories usually stop for roughly two weeks before and three weeks after. The official notice with the holiday dates is published in November 2026 on the Chinese government website, so check it before fixing delivery dates.
